Cost reduction
If you’re ramping up your production volumes, ensuring you realise your target cost is a crucial step. We offer a cost-reduction service to help you achieve maximum profitability.
We start by completing a full electronics design review of the system, to ensure that we fully understand how it is operating and compare this to your specification. This will allow us to identify areas we can look to reduce cost.
Our consultants will then work with you to reach your target pricing by changing components and redesigning functional blocks. Using our wealth of experience in cost management, we’ll help you identify the best areas to reduce costs without any reduction in the quality of the electronic product.
This activity can be carried out as a paper-based task to look at how much cost you could remove from your product, or a practical exercise to produce a lower-cost device.
Should cost
If you’re ramping up production or looking to purchase a large number of devices, should-cost forms an important part of the process. Having an estimate of how much the device cost to produce allows you to make an informed decision.
Should-cost involves working out how much an electronic product cost to manufacture. We can carry this out as an independent assessment so that you can validate any pricing you have been given by a manufacturer.
Our engineers will typically start by collating a full bill of materials for the parts in the systems. We’ll then use our industry connections to obtain our own prices for all those parts, typically approaching a range of manufacturers so that we can fully capture the current market prices.
Once we have a fully costed bill of materials, we’ll use our in-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes to calculate the cost of each manufacturing step, adapting the cost to account for local labour rates. We also take the time to consider any volume pricing discounts that might be available from a component manufacturer.
Design for X (DFX)
DFX covers a range of activities that are present at all stages of the product life cycle, including concepts such as design for manufacture (DFM), design for test (DFT) and design for assembly (DFA).
Our skilled and experienced team will help you review your electronics product and ensure it is designed with the correct traits in mind. Working with you from the start of the process, we’ll help prevent costly reworking further down the line.
Our consultants can also take existing designs and identify changes and modifications to make them more compatible with the DFX concepts.
Manufacturing support
We can support you through all aspects of your electronic product manufacturing journey, including areas such as electronics failure analysis, electronics design review and manufacturing consulting services.
If you have failed parts or poor production yields, our consultants will work out the root cause of the failure and recommend improvements. We utilise a wide range of tools and techniques to analyse every aspect of the product, including high-resolution X-ray and µCT analysis of sub-assembly components, detailed electrical testing using the latest test equipment, and temperature/humidity testing to determine how the electronic product behaves under extreme conditions.
We will also review your electronics design, covering a range of issues. We can also take sample circuits and use our state-of-the-art equipment to carry out detailed testing and fault analysis to ensure they are fit for purpose.
Our manufacturing consultant service provides you with support while engaging with manufacturers. We can be your technical point of contact with the manufacturer, explaining any technical jargon and advising you on the implications of any changes or modifications that the manufacturer would like to make. We can provide this on an ongoing basis for the lifetime of your product.
